Social Justice Opportunities at ULC

  • Food Pantry:  Every Sunday a grocery cart is filled with donations of food that is taken to the Gainesville Community Ministry Food Pantry or the new food bank on the UF campus for studentss and staff.

  • Church Garden:  Produce raised is given to the St. Francis House to use in their meal preparation for the homeless.

  • Prayer Shawl Ministry:  This is the newest outreach as members are creating prayer shawls to be given with love to those experiencing difficulties.

  • Habitat for Humanity:  ULC members have been involved in the building of homes in the Gainesville community.

  • AA Meetings:  ULC makes its facilities available for AA meetings.

  • Homeless:  ULC members have taken food to the people living in the tent city in Gainesville.  Backpacks filled with items are given out when people come to the church asking for assistance.

  • Family Promise:  ULC is a host church to Family Promise, a ministry to homeless families in the communities.  The congregation hosts families for a week four times a year.

  • Mission Trips:  Adults from ULC have gone on a medical mission trip to Haiti and Campus Ministry usually goes on a mission trip each year.

  • Prison Ministry:  ULC is a member of IAIJ (Interfaith Alliance for Immigrant Justice).  Through the efforts of a ULC member, twice monthly trips are now being made to the Baker County Detention Center (one of the 10 worst in the country according to LIRS.

  • Outreach Beyond Our Borders:  Members of ULC sponsor children at the Village of Hope School in Haiti as part of the Lazarus Project.  This year a total of 25 children are being sponsored.

  • Dresses for Africa & Haiti:  ULC members are creating dresses from pillowcases to send abroad.

  • Gainesville Community Grant:  A ULC member administers this grant.  Funds are available to help needy residents in the community.
